HCR 50 - RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING THE DELAWARE
MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC CORPORATION ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 35TH ANNIVERSARY AS THE PROVIDER OF PUBLIC POWER IN DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, 9 of Delaware’s cities and towns (Clayton, Dover, Lewes, Middletown, Milford, New Castle, Newark, Seaford and Smyrna) are engaged in the supplying of reliable public electric power to their more than 126,000 residential, commercial and industrial users; and
WHEREAS, in 1978, the Delaware General Assembly wisely enacted legislation which authorized the State’s public power municipalities to form a joint action agency to act as a wholesale public utility for their collective benefit; and
WHEREAS, in 1979, Delaware’s public power municipalities formed a non-profit quasi-public corporation known as the Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (“DEMEC”) to act on their behalf to secure and supply competitively priced and reliable electric energy;
